The Mirror Within

“The Mirror Within” follows Martha, a woman burdened by guilt and self-loathing, as she navigates a tense therapy session with Dr. Alex. Struggling to forgive herself for past mistakes, Martha’s emotional turmoil surfaces, leading to an intense confrontation with her inner demons. Through the session, Dr. Alex guides her toward a path of self-acceptance and healing, helping her rediscover the possibility of self-love. The film captures the fragile yet transformative journey from self-resentment to self-compassion.

Director's note

The Mirror Within grew out of a question I kept returning to: what does it actually feel like to be honest with yourself — not the performance of honesty, but the real thing? I wanted to make a film where the drama was entirely internal. No action, no movement, just two people in a room and the slow, uncomfortable process of one of them trying to tell the truth. The therapy session as a setting felt right — it is a space specifically designed for that kind of excavation, and yet so often we find ways to resist it even there. The film was shot in one day with a small crew and two extraordinary performers who brought a vulnerability to the material I had not fully anticipated. The long takes were deliberate — I wanted the audience to sit in the discomfort alongside Sarah, to feel the weight of the silences rather than be rescued from them by a cut. What I hope viewers take from it is not a lesson, but a feeling of recognition. That particular discomfort of seeing yourself clearly.
